Meet the New Barbie with Down Syndrome

The UpsideDowns team was very excited to hear that toy maker Mattel would this year be releasing its first Barbie doll with Down syndrome, so that more children have access to toys that represent them.

It turns out we weren’t the only ones excited about the new Barbie! Kea Kids News, Aotearoa’s news show for kids by kids, published by the NZ Herald, was keen to see how some UpsideDowns’ members reacted to the new Barbie with Down syndrome.

Thanks to the generosity of a local Barbie collector, we were able to show off the new doll at UpsideDowns HQ, and Kea Kids News put together this wonderful video (presented by superstar reporter Tilly!): Kea Kids News: Mattel releases Barbie with Down syndrome.

Below are some behind the scenes photos from the day.
