How to Celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month!

October is a time to celebrate the abilities and wonderful accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Here at UpsideDowns, we are committed to giving the gift of speech to every Kiwi kid with Down syndrome, so they can go on to raise their voices and live their dreams.

If you would like to support our work during Down Syndrome Awareness Month, here are some quick and effective ways you can help us make a difference:

Vote for Us

With just a click you can cast a vote for UpsideDowns at MyGivingCircle and bring us closer to receiving a substantial grant that will go towards covering the costs of speech and language therapy sessions for our members. Just click here to cast your vote (and if you wanted to share it on social media, we’d be even more grateful!)

Go Shopping

Did you know you can raise money for UpsideDowns just by doing your everyday online shopping? Join RewardHub for free using the button below and when you shop at 100s of online stores (including Mighty Ape, New World, Life Pharmacy, and loads more) UpsideDowns receives a donation that doesn’t cost you a thing!

Be a Regular Giving Hero

With a quick and easy sign-up to the One Percent Collective, you can choose to make a regular donation to UpsideDowns that will make a big difference for the kids we support. One Percent Collective is a charity too, so they don’t take a bite – we get 100% of your loving support.

Can Your Work Help?

Do you know if your workplace has a staff giving programme? Many companies ask their employees to nominate good causes to donate to, and if you’d like some help pitching UpsideDowns for the next round of workplace giving, please drop us a line.

Challenge Yourself

Down Syndrome Awareness Month is a great time to challenge yourself and help raise money for UpsideDowns through crowdfunding! Set yourself an exercise goal. Give something up for 21 days. Take on a creative project – time for a new Halloween costume? Do something that scares you (our friend Viv recently cut off her hair!).

If you’d like to take part in a crowdfunding challenge, send us an email and we can help you set it all up.

Treat a Sports Fan

If someone in your life is celebrating an achievement, gearing up for a big event, or hitting an important milestone, you can send them a personalised message from one of their favourite sporting stars with Swysh. You’ll also be helping UpsideDowns, as we are one of the charities that Swysh donates 10% of video proceeds to!

Send us a Pic

We are after photos of UpsideDowns members for our beautiful 2024 UpsideDowns calendar. So, while you're out enjoying your favourite things during Down Syndrome Awareness Month, be sure to capture some magic moments and send them in, and you could end up a calendar model.

Donate Now

UpsideDowns is a tiny charity with an impressive national reach – we are completely self-funded by donations, fundraising activities, and charitable grants, and receive no government support at all. So every donation goes a long way to helping us ensure our kids learn to speak, read, write, and live their best lives. Donate today!

Wishing you a fabulous Down Syndrome Awareness Month from the team at UpsideDowns!
