2024 Wrap Up
Dear UpsideDowns Members and Supporters,
As we approach the end of another busy year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey and share some positive updates with you. This year has presented its share of challenges, especially for charities like ours, but thanks to your support and the dedication of our community, we have continued to grow and strengthen our impact.
We are thrilled to report that our membership has grown to more than 330 members, with additional families currently being added to our waitlist. This growth is a testament to the value our community places on access to Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and the support offered by the UpsideDowns Education Trust. We remain as committed as ever to ensuring every family with a child with Down syndrome can access the support they need.
The Board continues to manage our operating model and finances in a sustainable and prudent manner so we can continue to support and grow our membership. This approach will enable us to have a greater impact where it matters most — supporting families and children with Down syndrome access high quality speech and language therapy.
We want to acknowledge and thank two incredible contributors who have recently moved on from their roles with the Trust. Chris Steenson, who most recently served as Chair, has stepped down after over seven years of dedicated service. His hard work and commitment have left an indelible mark on our community. We also thank Victoria Smith for her efforts and contributions, which have been invaluable.
Looking forward, we are excited to announce that I have taken up the role of Chair. We also welcome back previous board members Mel Watson and Rod Melvin, and we’re delighted to introduce Michael Raynes, who is joining us for the first time. With this strengthened board, we are well-positioned to continue supporting our members and building on our achievements.
This year, we reintroduced the Share the Dream event, which was a huge success thanks to the tireless efforts of Mel Watson and her team. We also ran our second T21 Golfing Event in Hawkes Bay, a fantastic initiative driven by Matt and Lucinda. Additionally, Cassy Williams spearheaded a Donate to Dine event in Tauranga. These events not only raised vital funds but also brought our community together in new and meaningful ways. It’s heartening to see our community’s support growing nationwide, affirming that UpsideDowns is now truly a national trust.
As we look ahead to 2025, we remain focused on growing our community, supporting our members, and introducing new families to the Trust. On behalf of the entire board, we wish you all a safe and joyous Christmas season. We’re excited to continue this journey together and look forward to another impactful year ahead.
Warm regards,
Nick Ling
